Adding SSD into will requires M.2 nvme into the reComputer J1020, this post is based on Memory Expansion | Seeed Studio Wiki
The documentation is a bit vague on the NVMe SSD to be used other than very basic instructions. However, in my attempt it is smooth.
The SSD that was chosen as the expansion storage is the Kingston NV2 PCIe NVMe M.2 500GB. The J1020 requires the SSD to be M key.

First the board need to be unmounted from the enclosure.

Based on the board, it can only accept M.2 that is 2280.

Next boot up the reComputer J1020.
First boot up will be greeted with nVIDIA logo, then upon boot up, the reComputer J1020 will requires accept of user agreement before initializing the device for the first time.
After the boot up, sign in if needed. Check the “Disk” to verify SSD are installed and recognized.
If the SSD installation is successful, in the DISK the SSD will be displayed.

Proceed with the instructions to make the SSD as the primary boot device.
Summary, the SSD that is compatible is the M.2 2280 PCIe M key SSD that must not exceed 500GB.
